Master Greg Tal, holds an 8th Degree Black Belt in the Art of Shaolin Kempo Karate and is the Head Instructor at Villari’s Self Defence at 556 Sheppard Avenue West, The North York location.
Greg was born and raised in the former Soviet Union, Greg became interested in martial arts at the age of 11. In school, he was teased and bullied because he was the shortest child in the class. “You know how jokes are often funny because they are based in an ugly truth”, Greg quoted ... ... I can vividly recall days when I would have to launch myself out of class and hide to avoid conformation. One day came that I came across a karate magazine and was fascinated.
I read Magazines and books it inspired to stop running and to finally take responsibility in life and defend myself. At this time the federal government used to plan and control every aspect of one's life in Russia. While inefficient, it did provide a sense of security and self-righteous comfort. BUT any type of martial arts training was prohibited by law, Greg persistence and determination to stop running sought out an underground school of Martial arts headed by former military. This is where his saga began. Greg came to Canada in 1983 and stumbled across Fred Villari’s School established by Henry Choo Chong. We became enthralled with this fighting system.
